Scul-Tel is an energy monitor that can track your home's temperature as well as the fuel level in your tank.

What do you mean by "monitor"?
Scul-Tel's technology allows this intelligent monitor to act as "watchdog" for your home's precious source of heat. Should there be any problems such as your household's temperature dropping below 42-47° or a low fuel level, an electronic signal is sent to the control unit, which then relays the message to the computer in our office. If there is no heat, a service technician is immediately alerted and arrives quickly to fix the problem. If the fuel level is getting low, a delivery will be scheduled to refill the tank. The control unit consists of electronic circuitry that has proven to be extremely reliable. Simply put, the Scul-Tel monitor senses and deals with emergencies so that you don't have to.

What does Scul-Tel look like?
This small black box (about the size of a smoke detector) is powered by a long-life battery, allowing the system to function even during a power failure.

What's involved in the installation?
The main Scul-Tel unit is mounted in the basement, keeping it out of your way. A low-profile sensor is placed in the home to monitor temperature. A second sensor is placed on the tank gauge to monitor its fuel level. It's wired into your phone line for access to call our office. Our delivery system is alerted while you still have a significant amount of oil in the tank, avoiding last minute emergencies.

How does Scul-Tel use my telephone line?
If an alert is sent, the Scul-Tel transmitter goes into action by dialing the phone number of Riverside's computer. The correct message (either Loss of heat or Fuel reorder) is transmitted, and we take the appropriate action.
We are equipped to respond to Loss of heat calls 24 hours per day, every day, in cold weather. Should your line be in use when the Scul-Tel system is triggered, it will not interfere with your call. It will wait until the line is free, and dial until it has successfully communicated its message.

How do I know that it is working?
The unit calls into our office every 10 days for a self-test; this lets us know that it's working properly. Our office will investigate any overdue calls. In addition, it will also call us to let us know if the battery is getting low.

Why do I need this type of protection?
Regular maintenance of your heating system should provide many years of trouble-free service with today's modern furnaces and boilers. Nevertheless, any mechanical system can fail for a variety of reasons. It makes good sense to protect the investment you have in your home and the Scul-Tel home monitoring system provides real peace of mind for minimal cost. If heat is lost in extremely cold weather, be it a mechanical problem, loss of fuel or power, water pipes can freeze and burst in less than 12 hours in most buildings. We see this every winter. The cost of repairing the damage can be significant and it can be an extremely inconvenient situation to the homeowner. If you're away, a caretaker might look after your home and check the heat only once a day, or less. Scul-Tel is always keeping track of things for you, 24/7.
